4.2 Safe, Healthy, Legal & Ethical Use
Candidates model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. (PSC 4.2/ISTE 5b)
Artifact: Capstone Proposal
Reflection:
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were your individual contribution(s)?
My capstone proposal addresses this standard perfectly. This artifact was written as part of the instructional technology specialist cohort, and it addresses a plan to implement digital citizenship curriculum at Roswell High School
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. See the portfolio rubric and watch the videos for more details on what to include in your reflection for this question. You must respond to each of the items on the rubric in this question! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you address ALL of the criteria on the rubric. This one question may need to be several paragraphs long in order to address all of the items on the rubric.
This artifact addresses the standard by laying out a plan to facilitate student learning safe, healthy, legal and ethical use of digital information and technologies. By implementing Common Sense Media curriculum at Roswell, they do just that. My contribution is a plan for both implementation and certification.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? Not changing anything is NOT an acceptable response.
As you implement Common Sense curriculum, it’s hard not to learn at least something new about teaching digital citizenship to students. The curriculum gives a great scope to work with, and there is always something new in the updates. The other area of learning is working through the eccentricities of planning a school wide initiative especially at something as big as a high school. It takes time and effort to get folks on board
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
This artifact has aspects of school improvement, faculty development, and student learning in it. From a school perspective, teaching students about digital citizenship in a positive way can always improve the school and culture. From a faculty development standpoint, this artifact forces faculty to focus on digital citizenship and include it in their curriculum. From a student learning perspective, students actually learn how to be safe on the Internet!
