3.2 Managing Digital Tools and Resources
Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. (PSC 3.2/ISTE 3b)
Artifact: Lockhart US History
Reflection:
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were your individual contribution(s)?
The article I choose to show that I have met this standard is my old class website lockhartushistory.com. Lockhart Us History was the site I used with my US History classes when I was still in teaching in the classroom. I created the site over several years, and then I continuously iterated on its design and content.
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. See the portfolio rubric and watch the videos for more details on what to include in your reflection for this question. You must respond to each of the items on the rubric in this question! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you address ALL of the criteria on the rubric. This one question may need to be several paragraphs long in order to address all of the items on the rubric.
This article demonstrates mastery because it lays out how I used and managed digital tools in my classroom. I chose to use a website instead of a LMS in order to use the power of HTML embed to improve organization. My class was also structured around an overall concept of a historical newsroom. Students had options to learn through blended content, complete student creation projects with digital tools, and more. The website helped organize it all so if students got lost on the Internet they knew where to go. I also used tools like Symbaloo to add organization to the site.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? Not changing anything is NOT an acceptable response.
I think whenever you do some type of digital platform to use as a base for you class, you learn a good deal about how students minds function, the types of assignments that are successful, and how to organize them in a way that makes sense to students. I learned all of this from the site, and I continue to learn things that will help me iterate it in the future.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
This article was all about student learning. I think to implement digital content and technology in the classroom you need a place that is a base for kids to start from. This allowed me to provide assignment choices, blended content, and more. It was one of the main reasons my technology implementation was successful.
