Artifact: Coaching Log
Reflection:
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were your individual contribution(s)?
This artifact was made in the process of my instructional technology specialist program, but the coaching that was involved in the artifact was done as part of my work with Kennesaw State Iteach. The artifact journals my time spent coaching Ms. Liz Goldsmith at Alpharetta Elementary School.
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. See the portfolio rubric and watch the videos for more details on what to include in your reflection for this question. You must respond to each of the items on the rubric in this question! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you address ALL of the criteria on the rubric. This one question may need to be several paragraphs long in order to address all of the items on the rubric.
This artifact meets the standard because through the process of coaching a teacher I am researching, recommending, and implementing strategies that imitate and sustain technology innovations in a single teachers classroom. In the process of coaching with Ms. Goldsmith we moved from alternative ways to present content, to date, to student creation. We also found tools that she could use and sustain on the way. By working with Ms. Goldsmith, the hope is that she will in turn coach some of her fellow second grade teachers which meets the last part of the standard concerning the change process in schools.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? Not changing anything is NOT an acceptable response.
Whenever you coach a teacher, you always learn something new. Everyone is different with different needs, and Ms. Goldsmith is no different. She is the type who is willing to try anything so the key is to focus her on a change she can make effectively. I think this experience taught me to make that change REALLY focused!
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
Any time you are working with a teacher to implement gradual instructional change it works to improve student learning. From this experience, hopefully Ms. Goldsmith will be able to deliver content in an engaging way and move students into a more creation-based environment. Impact can be seen from observation, but it can also be taken from how this improves the school as what Ms. Goldsmith learns spreads.
