3.5 Basic Troubleshooting
Candidates troubleshoot basic software and hardware problems common in digital learning environments. (PSC 3.5ISTE 3e)
Artifact: Apple Configurator Screenshot
Reflection:
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were your individual contribution(s)?
The article I choose for this standard is a screenshot of Apple Configurator with the devices I manage for KSU Iteach. This artifact shows that I have the ability to do things like manage devices, which is a basic trouble shooting function. I manage 10 Ipad touches and several Ipads for Iteach currently, but I have managed others in the past as well as aiding in troubleshooting all different types of mobile management systems.
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. See the portfolio rubric and watch the videos for more details on what to include in your reflection for this question. You must respond to each of the items on the rubric in this question! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you address ALL of the criteria on the rubric. This one question may need to be several paragraphs long in order to address all of the items on the rubric.
This article demonstrates mastery because anyone who has ever managed mobile devices knows that it entails troubleshooting both basic hardware and software problems that appear in a digital learning environment. You have to add software that is needed as well as try and figure out what is going on with devices that don’t work exactly as they should. I have also been doing troubleshooting type activities for many years, but they are hard to prove, as they are all different
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? Not changing anything is NOT an acceptable response.
I ALWAYS learn something new when troubleshooting devices. Device management has so many features, switches, and settings, that you almost learn something new every single time you open configurator. Just recently, I have learned how to take the passcodes off of devices and how to set up profiles in Configurator 2. I also just recently learned how to manage devices in Airwatch.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
If you have devices, someone has to troubleshoot. If not, learning can be held up and stop. Without good troubleshooting, it also affects teacher confidence. If the devices are having problems, teachers won’t use them
