Artifact: Big Guy in a Bow Tie Twitter Account
Reflection:
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were your individual contribution(s)?
There is no better way to show this then my Twitter account. I use the account for a host of things, but specifically as a digital communication and collaboration tool. I started the account around 2011, but it has obviously grown considerably since then with over 5,700 followers all across the world
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. See the portfolio rubric and watch the videos for more details on what to include in your reflection for this question. You must respond to each of the items on the rubric in this question! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you address ALL of the criteria on the rubric. This one question may need to be several paragraphs long in order to address all of the items on the rubric.
This account is the standard. From a student and parent standpoint, I used the account to communicate classroom due dates and bell ringers and exit tickets when I was in the classroom. Where the account really stands out in regards to the standard is the connection to peers and the broader community. Twitter has been an incredible tool for me to make friends in the ed tech community all over the world. It also has given me the power to maybe not know everything, but there is not much where I don’t at least know who to turn to.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? Not changing anything is NOT an acceptable response.
The building of my Twitter account and its followers has taught me so much over the years. I have learned numerous ed tech ideas, concepts, and tools from it. It has connected me with experts that I still depend on to teach me knew things, and I have learned skills to have a more effective online presence.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
This account has made me a better teacher and coach. It has given me numerous ideas that have translated to students and to working with teachers, which in the end have led to school improvement.
