Artifact: Management Portion of High School Blend
Reflection
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were your individual contribution(s)
The article I selected to meet this standard is the managing portion of a website I created on blending in the high school classroom. This site was created with all high schools in mind, but the idea came from my time as a coach at Cambridge High School. I started as a coach with Cambridge at a really interesting time (right before spring break), which made connecting with teachers on classroom initiatives difficult. By that point in the year, most high school teachers are very reluctant to try new things. This site was built in an effort to get instructional practice changes in the time where high school teachers are more likely to make changes: the breaks
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it is placed. See the portfolio rubric and watch the videos for more details on what to include in your reflection for this question. You must respond to each of the items on the rubric in this question! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you address ALL of the criteria on the rubric. This one question may need to be several paragraphs long in order to address all of the items on the rubric.
This article meets the standard because it outlines tips and tricks for classroom management in a blended classroom. The tips and tricks are meant for a collaborative technology rich classroom which is evident both on the page and listed and throughout the site. This site can then be used to aid in coaching situations in the future.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact? Not changing anything is NOT an acceptable response.
In all honesty, the learning associated with the making of this artifact came over many years. The tips and tricks that are presented in this artifact come from many years of trying stuff in my own classroom and seeing what works. Some are just common sense while others really took some trial and error. From a standpoint of what did I learn as I created, I think making this artifact helped me outline coherent processes that can then be shared with teachers in the future who are interested in blended learning. That process was something I had in my head, but this put that process in an order others can understand.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
This articles impact can be seen through teacher’s use of the processes and tricks that are laid out with in it. If one teacher, takes the steps with in it and uses it then it is a success. In my current role, that is difficult to measure though as I am no longer connected to that school. My best avenue to confirm impact right now is the site analytics.
